Homework Comes First…

“Homework Comes First”, a bronze sculpture by Martha Pettigrew at the Renton Public Library on the Cedar River.

The sculpture is very popular with kids, especially the little one’s who can’t resist patting and rubbing the top of his head. With all that loving attention over the past 10 years, the top of his head is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the sculpture.

“Homework Comes First” sits at the southeast entrance to the library which also serves as an entrance into Liberty Park. It’s a great location and a wonderful statement to all the foot traffic passing by every day of the week.

Pettigrew’s headliner on her website is “sculpture that expresses strength, dignity, and serenity” and her work certainly demonstrates that aesthetic. She has a very impressive body of work using wildlife, animals, and people in a very classic American fashion. You can see more of her work at: Martha Pettigrew
